Cairo – Wednesday, 3 June 2026
Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Province of Alexandria of the Anglican Episcopal Church, affirmed that the celebrations of the Feast of the Entry of the Holy Family into Egypt represent a great spiritual and national occasion, carrying meanings of joy and blessing for all Egyptians.
He noted that Egypt holds a unique position among all countries, as the Holy Family chose it as a safe haven during their flight, which bestowed special blessings upon its land—blessings felt by all who live on it.
Archbishop Samy Fawzy said that the commemoration of the Holy Family’s entry into Egypt embodies the message of love and peace that has characterized Egypt throughout its long history, and reflects the values of coexistence and acceptance of others, which remain an integral part of the Egyptian identity.
He emphasized the importance of continuing to develop and promote the Holy Family Trail as one of the most significant religious, cultural, and tourism heritage projects in the region, due to its major positive impact on the national economy and its role in boosting religious tourism and attracting visitors from around the world to the sites blessed by the Holy Family during their journey through Egypt.
The Archbishop called for considering June 1 of each year as a national holiday for Egyptians, in celebration of the entry of the Holy Family into Egypt. He also urged that the Holy Family Trail be included in educational curricula to introduce new generations to this important historical event and its human, national, and spiritual values, while enhancing awareness of Egypt’s unique civilizational heritage.
He praised the efforts of the Egyptian state in developing and upgrading the Holy Family Trail sites to accommodate visitors, stressing that these efforts reflect a comprehensive vision for preserving religious and human heritage and maximizing its benefit.
He also highlighted the positive role played by the Egyptian state in promoting citizenship values and consolidating principles of equality and coexistence, as a key approach under the New Republic led by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, supported by all state institutions and leadership, contributing to national unity and reinforcing Egypt’s position as an oasis of security, stability, and tolerance among all its people.
