Cairo – Thursday, 11 June 2026
Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Province of Alexandria of the Anglican Episcopal Church, presided today over the ordination service of Deacon Kirillos Rushdy, Deacon Nagi Fayez, Deacon Selim Fouad, Deacon Mark Faeq, Deacon Matta Nasri, Deacon Bassem Saadallah, and Deacon Timothy Roy, to serve in the Holy Catholic Apostolic Church of God. The service was held during the Divine Liturgy at All Saints Cathedral in Zamalek, in the presence of a large congregation.
The service began with the procession of the Archbishop, preceded by priests and deacons, followed by the reading of Scripture and the prayers of ordination and consecration.
At the beginning of his sermon, the Archbishop expressed his joy at the occasion, affirming that ordination is not the result of a few days, but rather the outcome of months of training, learning, and spiritual formation. He noted that the new deacons had undergone a period of preparation and qualification for service in the Church.
He thanked the priests, servants, and faculty members of the theological seminary who contributed to preparing the new deacons, as well as the mentors and supervisors who accompanied them during their training, and their families who supported them throughout the journey.
The Archbishop spoke about God’s calling to service, affirming that the Church does not choose servants based solely on human ability, but seeks those filled with faith and the Holy Spirit. He emphasized that God is the true source of calling, and He is the One who chooses and equips His servants for ministry.
He encouraged the new deacons to hold fast to three key truths in their ministry: that God is the One who chose them, that ministry is greater than what the human eye can see, and that the Holy Spirit is the source of strength and the daily companion of every servant.
He affirmed that Christian service knows no small or great works, citing the life of Saint Stephen, the first deacon, who began by serving widows before being used by God in a broader and greater ministry. He stressed that faithfulness in small matters has a great impact on people’s lives and opens new doors for service.
He added that a servant cannot give to others what they have not first received from God, explaining that spiritual fullness is attained through personal prayer, study of the Word of God, and spiritual fellowship, so that the servant remains filled with the Holy Spirit and capable of continuous giving.
He also called on the congregation to pray for the new deacons, affirming that a praying church is a growing and built-up church, and that servants always need spiritual support in carrying the responsibility of ministry.
At the conclusion of the service, the Archbishop prayed for the new deacons, asking God to establish them in their calling, fill them with the Holy Spirit, and use them as faithful instruments in His hands for the service of His people and the building of His kingdom, to God alone be the glory.
The entire service was translated into sign language for the deaf and hard of hearing, as part of the Church’s commitment to full inclusion of all its members in church life.
