Archbishop Samy Shehata
The Most Reverend Dr. Samy Fawzy Shehata has been blessed by God’s provision and guidance throughout his life and ministry. While serving in children and youth ministry at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Giza, he experienced a transformation of heart through the study of Scripture and discerned a call to ordained ministry. He began his theological studies in 1988, earning degrees from the University of Wales and the University of Birmingham, culminating in a Doctorate in Theology (Th.D) in 2002.
Ordained as a deacon in 1990 and a priest in 1991, Archbishop Samy has served in various capacities, including Curate, Bishop’s Chaplain, and Rector in Alexandria. His leadership roles expanded as Dean of St. Mark’s Pro-Cathedral, Principal of Alexandria School of Theology, and Area Bishop of North Africa. In 2021, he was consecrated as Archbishop of the Anglican Province of Alexandria and Bishop of Egypt, where he continues to serve with faithfulness and dedication.
Archbishop Samy is married to Madlaine, a devoted partner in ministry and Director of the Education Sector. They have two sons, Rafik, who lives in Canada with his wife and daughter, and Ramy, a medical graduate working as a psychiatrist in Cairo. Throughout his journey, Archbishop Samy remains deeply grateful for God’s hand in his life, sustaining and directing him in service to the Church and its mission.
