St. Raphael Sudanese Learning Center

The center provides students with an education in a secure setting, in their own language and with peers and teachers from their home culture. When they graduate and pass their exams with the Sudanese embassy, they are qualified to continue their education in Egyptian universities. This is a vital step towards their future opportunities to work and make a new life, whether they continue to live in Egypt, return to their home country, or resettle elsewhere.
Beyond the academic credentials, however, St. Raphael offers a community of love and acceptance to its students. The teachers and staff are committed to working against the culture of violence and gangs which are common in the surrounding neighborhood, and encouraging instead a tight-knit group of young people who work together to achieve their goals. St. Raphael’s students and teachers represent a unique mix of ethnic groups, genders, and religions, and is committed to accepting participants of all backgrounds.
