Archbishop Confirms New Members at Church of Jesus, Prince of Peace in El Salam City

Cairo – Sunday, June 14, 2026

The Most Rev. Dr. Sami Fawzy, Archbishop of the Episcopal/Anglican Province of Alexandria, presided today over the Holy Eucharist at the Episcopal Church of Jesus, Prince of Peace in El Salam City, where he confirmed four new members into the life of the Church. He was joined in the service by the Rev. Samir Dawood, the parish priest.

In his sermon, Archbishop Fawzy reflected on the words of Jesus Christ: “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest” (Matthew 9:37–38). He explained that when Christ looked upon the crowds, He saw people who were weary, distressed, and in need of care and guidance. For this reason, He called His disciples to pray for more laborers to serve in God’s harvest.

The Archbishop emphasized that Christ never viewed people as mere numbers or crowds, but with a heart full of compassion and mercy. Scripture describes them as “harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”

He added that this image remains true today, as many people still long for someone to listen to them, stand beside them, and lead them to the knowledge of God. He noted that the Church is called to see people through the eyes of Christ and with the heart of the Good Shepherd.

Archbishop Fawzy also explained that Christ’s use of the image of the “harvest” carries profound meaning. Just as every stalk of grain in a field has value, every human being is precious in God’s sight, for Christ died for each one.

He continued by saying that the harvest cannot be delayed, for “the fields are ripe for harvest.” This, he said, reminds the Church that now is the time for ministry and witness, and that it is called to reach people wherever they are.

The Archbishop stressed that Christ is not seeking people of high status or extraordinary abilities, but servants who are willing to engage in genuine ministry, serve sacrificially, and meet people in the midst of their needs and suffering. He noted that a true servant proclaims the truth in love, strengthens believers in their faith, and works to unite rather than divide.

He further emphasized that ministry begins first with prayer, in accordance with Christ’s command: “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Concluding his reflection, Archbishop Fawzy affirmed that every believer is called to participate in God’s mission in the world. He noted that God is not looking for perfection as much as He seeks willing hearts that can say, “Here am I; send me.” He added that serving God may begin with a word of encouragement, a pastoral visit, a prayer, or a faithful witness in everyday life, calling on everyone to be a true reflection of Christ within society.

The Service of Confirmation is one of the Church’s sacramental rites through which individuals are formally received into the membership of the Episcopal Church. During the service, the candidates publicly affirm before the Bishop, the parish priest, and the congregation their commitment to remain steadfast in the Christian faith, maintain a life of prayer, grow in the study of God’s Word, and participate actively in the worship, fellowship, and ministries of the Church.
