The Episcopal Church Organizes a Seminar on Protection Policy Against Harassment and Psychological Abuse
Today, the Diocese of the Episcopal Church organized an awareness seminar titled “A Safe Environment Free from Fear”, presented by Dr. Manal Makram, Director of the Medical Sector at the Diocese. The event aimed to shed light on the protection policy against physical and psychological abuse, with a particular focus on harassment, and how to safeguard vulnerable groups in society.
The seminar addressed the importance of creating a safe environment that respects the dignity of every human being and supports groups that are often marginalized or exposed to abuse, such as children, persons with disabilities, refugees unaware of their rights, as well as the elderly and workers suffering from exploitation by their employers.
The seminar emphasized the need to adopt practical measures to reduce harassment in institutions and society, through continuous awareness of human rights, training staff on how to detect and respond to inappropriate behavior, and providing safe and confidential channels for reporting violations. The importance of empowering victims and providing them with psychological and legal support was also stressed, along with promoting a general culture that rejects silence and encourages speaking out.
The Diocese of the Episcopal Church affirmed during the seminar that it has an official protection policy aimed at preventing abuse and exploitation in all its forms. The policy includes a dedicated protection committee responsible for receiving complaints and conducting investigations, as well as overseeing the implementation of protection standards across all diocesan activities and services.
