Archbishop Opens Training Workshop on Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding in Minya

Today, Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Province of Alexandria of the Episcopal/Anglican Church, inaugurated a training workshop on “Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding” in Minya. The event was attended by Bishop Emeritus Dr. Mouneer Hanna Anis, Director of the Christian-Islamic Center for Understanding and Partnership, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abou Zeid, Coordinator of the Egyptian Family House.

This workshop is part of the initiatives organized by the Christian-Islamic Center in collaboration with the Egyptian Family House and Misr El Kheir Foundation. It aims to promote a culture of dialogue and peacebuilding while addressing the challenges that threaten national cohesion—particularly in Upper Egypt.

In his opening remarks, Archbishop Fawzy said:
“We are here today to learn from the important and inspiring work being done in Minya. The foundation of the Christian-Islamic Center is built on understanding and partnership. We have come to listen and learn, and we pray that we may contribute with ideas that help foster community peace, all in service of our beloved homeland under the wise leadership of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.”

Bishop Mouneer Hanna added:
“The goal of this training is to learn how to take positive steps that contribute to the cohesion of our society and the national fabric in Minya. By involving local leaders from various religious and social backgrounds, we aim to work together toward community peace and stronger social bonds. This is the goal of the Center—and also the mission of the Church.”

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abou Zeid commented:
“Today we participate in this training on conflict resolution and peacebuilding, which seeks to implement preventive measures and raise awareness of risks before they arise. It also aims to enhance public awareness of potential conflicts, in order to avoid any future strife. These efforts continue the vital roles of both the Egyptian Family House and the Christian-Islamic Center in preserving national unity.”

The event also featured participation from Mr. Selim, a lay servant from the Episcopal Church; Reverend Samir Dawood, the training coordinator; Mr. Maqar El-Omda, coordinator of the Egyptian Family House in Minya; and Dr. Shaimaa Adly, a preacher and member of the Fatwa Committee at Al-Azhar. A number of community and religious leaders, as well as youth from diverse backgrounds, also took part.
