Archbishop Samy Fawzy Leads “Prayer and Praise” Meeting at All Saints’ Cathedral in Zamalek

Cairo – Tuesday, October 27, 2026

The Most Rev. Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of Alexandria for the Episcopal Anglican Province of Alexandria, presided over the “Prayer and Praise” meeting as part of the spiritual revival events held yesterday evening at All Saints’ Episcopal Cathedral in Zamalek. The Rev. Canon Hany Shenouda, Dean of the Cathedral, joined him in prayer, while worship was led by singer David Gad.

In his sermon, the Archbishop explored the concept of spiritual revival through three key stages. He explained that it begins with a sincere cry to God and an acknowledgment of humanity’s need for Him. He emphasized that genuine prayer does not shy away from expressing pain and confusion, but instead lays the heart’s burdens before God. Revival does not begin by claiming that everything is fine, but by acknowledging our need for God and trusting that He hears our prayers.

He explained that revival grows as we wait for God in faith, noting that waiting is neither laziness nor despair, but a spiritual practice grounded in persistent prayer and returning to the Holy Scriptures. He stressed that faith does not mean seeing with one’s own eyes and then believing; rather, it means trusting God even before seeing the answers to our prayers.

The Archbishop added that spiritual revival bears the fruit of genuine joy, even amid difficult circumstances. He emphasized that revival is neither a human project nor a program organized by the Church, but the work of God, who gives life. True revival, he said, means allowing Christ to live in our hearts, homes, and churches, while keeping the joy of the Lord alive regardless of the challenges we face.

He called on everyone to begin with themselves by setting aside regular time for prayer and Bible reading and translating their faith into love and service to others.

The Archbishop concluded his sermon by praying for the renewal of churches, homes, and young people, and that the earth would be filled with the knowledge of the glory of God. He also prayed for Egypt and its people, as well as for church ministries and those serving in them, asking God to bless every ministry and grant everyone the faith, hope, and strength to continue serving others.
