
Today, Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Alexandria Diocese of the Anglican Church, received Dr. Michel Abbés, General Secretary of the Middle East Council of Churches, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of Rev. Yeshua Bakhit, General Secretary of the Council of Churches of Egypt; Canon Medhat Sabry, pastor of St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Menouf; and Rev. Michel Milad, pastor of the Good Shepherd Anglican Church in Giza, at the All Saints’ Anglican Cathedral in Zamalek.
The visit included extensive discussions to explore ways of cooperation between the Middle East Council of Churches and the Council of Churches of Egypt, aiming to enhance church coordination and unify efforts in preparation for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2026. The discussions also addressed mechanisms for developing spiritual programs and joint activities to deepen the spirit of unity and fellowship among churches and to strengthen values of love and encounter among different Christian denominations.
Both sides emphasized the importance of joint work in serving the church and society in the region, as well as the necessity of strengthening fraternal relations among different churches through unified efforts and the exchange of experiences. They also stressed the importance of cooperation in providing social services and developmental and spiritual activities that target all community groups, contributing to supporting individuals and promoting values of love, solidarity, and community partnership.
Dr. Michel Abbés’ delegation included Rev. Rifaat Fikry, Co-General Secretary of the Middle East Council of Churches; Professor Laurie Abi Khalil, Coordinator of the Dialogue, Social Cohesion, and Human Dignity Program; and media coordinator Lia Adel, responsible for church relations and communications at the Middle East Council of Churches.
