Menoufy Episcopal Hospital Celebrates Dr. George Shukry’s Graduation from the PAACS Surgical Academy

Today, Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Alexandria Diocese of the Anglican Church, participated in the graduation ceremony of Dr. George Shukry from the PAACS Academy at Hermel Episcopal Hospital in Menoufy. The event was attended by Rev. Canon Medhat Sabry, pastor of St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Menouf, and Dr. Manal Makram, Director of the Diocese Medical Sector.

The Archbishop said:
“The talents God gives us are opportunities He places in our hands to serve others. The Lord loves us all, and He grants us opportunities and gifts to bring glory to Him and benefit others. He also makes us stewards of what He has given, and the day will come when we account for these gifts.”

He continued:
“The servant who receives the gifts and uses them well is praised by the Lord, and this is the highest praise. As the Lord said: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much.’ What God has done for Dr. George is to elevate him and give him more gifts. The gift granted to PAACS graduates today is a responsibility in practice and a respect for the sanctity of life.”

Dr. Ihab Morris, Acting Director of the Hospital, addressed Dr. George:
“We want to express our pride in you. You demonstrated all your skills and dedication during the program, and we congratulate you wholeheartedly. Every time we recall the PAACS program, we remember the beautiful impact it has left—not only at Hermel Hospital, but across Egypt and in many African countries that hosted the program. The program has left a lasting positive effect everywhere. When we remember Dr. David Thompson, the founder of PAACS, we recall many lives that have been transformed.”

Dr. Randal Owen, Director of the PAACS Program in Egypt, addressed Dr. George:
“We are very happy for you and thank God for this moment. I also want to thank everyone who supports the PAACS program. I feel honored and privileged to be part of the team at Hermel Hospital. The warm relationships here always made me feel at home. Today, my heart is filled with joy as I return to witness Dr. George’s graduation.”

It is noteworthy that the PAACS Academy specializes in training surgeons in Africa to work in challenging environments. It began training Egyptian doctors at Hermel Memorial Hospital in 2014. Each year, one or two doctors are admitted to the advanced five-year training program based on their competence. The program includes rotations at other PAACS hospitals in Africa and participation in international surgical conferences.
