Archbishop Dr. Sami Fawzy, Presiding Bishop of the Alexandria Province of the Anglican Episcopal Church, visited His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, accompanied by a distinguished group of Anglican bishops from around the world. The visit took place during their presence in Rome to participate in the conference titled “The Anglican Church: Unity, Faith, and Order,” which addresses ways to strengthen ecclesial unity and support theological dialogue among churches.
Archbishop Dr. Sami Fawzy expressed his deep appreciation for the warm welcome, emphasizing the importance of such meetings in building bridges of communication and fellowship among churches and in advancing the ecumenical dialogue. He also highlighted the vital role churches play in promoting the values of love, peace, and joint action for the good of humanity.
His Holiness Pope Leo XIV reflected by saying, “The One who rose from the dead preceded us through the great experience of death and emerged victorious through the power of divine love.” During the season of Advent, as we contemplate the future of our lives, the Church, and the world, we too await with hope and confidence that God—within us and through us—“is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20).
The conference “The Anglican Church: Unity, Faith, and Order” aims to promote dialogue and understanding among Anglican churches worldwide and to support ecumenical efforts to bring Christian churches closer together. It focuses on exploring ways to strengthen ecclesial unity, affirm shared faith, and review organizational structures to ensure that church practices align with the spirit of communion and cooperation, in commitment to spreading the values of love and peace in society.
