Fruitful Cooperation Between Al-Azhar and the Episcopal Church

As part of ongoing efforts to promote interfaith dialogue and understanding, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, received today Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Episcopal/Anglican Province of Alexandria. The Archbishop expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the Grand Imam’s continuous support for dialogue and cooperation between Al-Azhar and the Church.

The visit was attended by Bishop Dr. Mouneer Hanna, Archbishop Emeritus and Director of the Christian-Muslim Relations Center, as well as Reverend Dr. Matthew Anderson.

Archbishop Samy Fawzy praised Al-Azhar’s support for the “Journey of Learning” conference, organized by the Episcopal Church to promote understanding and coexistence within society. He also expressed his deep appreciation for the Grand Imam’s support of the activities of the Christian-Muslim Relations Center, describing it as one of the Church’s key initiatives in building bridges between religions.

The Archbishop expressed his great joy and gratitude for the growing closeness and fruitful cooperation between the Episcopal Church and Al-Azhar. He noted that the Center’s ongoing programs and joint initiatives play a vital role in enhancing this relationship.

For his part, the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb emphasized the importance of continuing to foster a culture of dialogue and joint cooperation in service of the nation and the promotion of peace.
