In Partnership with Misr El Kheir, Al-Nardine Association Organizes Event for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing People and Their Families

Cairo – Wednesday, September 23, 2026

Al-Nardine Association for Social Services, in cooperation with Misr El Kheir Foundation, organized an interactive event marking International Sign Language Day at the association’s headquarters, Jesus Light of the World Episcopal Church in Old Cairo, with the participation of a number of families and deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.

The event aimed to strengthen the role of families in supporting their children with hearing disabilities by providing a space for communication and interaction, helping develop their skills in self-expression and participation while strengthening relationships within the family.

The event featured a range of activities, including games, drawing, coloring, photography, and skits. Parents and their children participated together in activities that provided an opportunity for communication and spending quality time together.

The event was organized as part of a partnership between Misr El Kheir Foundation and Al-Nardine Association, supporting initiatives and partnerships aimed at the inclusion of people with disabilities and creating opportunities for their participation. The partnership also seeks to strengthen the role of families in supporting their children and promote greater coordination among organizations working in the disability sector in ways that support people with disabilities and enhance their participation in society.

Mostafa Sabah, Director of the Inclusion and Accessibility Program at Misr El Kheir Foundation, said that cooperation with civil society organizations helps create new opportunities for inclusion and participation. He explained that the partnership aims to coordinate efforts and services provided to people with disabilities and support their active participation in society.

The event was attended by Madeline Soustanis, Head of the Education Sector of the Episcopal Diocese; Sherry Nabil, Director of the Deaf Unit at Al-Nardine Association; Claire Gaies, Advisor to the Episcopal Diocese for Ministry to Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing People and founder of the association; Ramiz Bakhit, sign language trainer and interpreter; and Janet Beshara, Secretary of the association.

Al-Nardine Association emphasized that family participation is an essential component of supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing people, highlighting the importance of providing activities that bring children and their parents together and give them space for communication, self-expression, and participation. Such activities, the association noted, can have a positive impact on children’s self-confidence and their relationships within the family.

Al-Nardine Association for Social Services provides activities and services aimed at supporting people with hearing disabilities and their families. Its cooperation with Misr El Kheir Foundation contributes to expanding opportunities for inclusion and participation in society.
