The Anglican Episcopal Church has provided live interpretation in Egyptian Sign Language and designated a special section for the deaf and hard of hearing inside All Saints’ Cathedral in Zamalek, where Bishop Dr. Sami Fawzy, Archbishop of the Episcopal Church, is presiding over the Christmas Mass prayers.
The Episcopal Church is considered the first church in Egypt to be actively dedicated to serving the deaf and hard of hearing community. This ministry is overseen by Rev. Clement Alfons at Jesus Light of the World Episcopal Church. Live interpretation is provided by Claire Ghais and Ramez Bekhit, who serve as deaf ministry leaders in the church.
Earlier, the bells of All Saints’ Episcopal Cathedral in Zamalek rang out to announce the beginning of the Christmas Mass. The Anglican Episcopal Church follows the Western calendar and celebrates the birth of Christ on the night of December 25.
