In Celebration of Christmas… The Episcopal Cathedral in Zamalek Hosts the American University in Cairo Concert

In conjunction with the Christmas celebrations, the All Saints’ Episcopal Cathedral in Zamalek hosted a musical concert by the Cairo Choral Society of the American University in Cairo, under the title “Messiah.” The event was attended by Archbishop Dr. Sami Fawzi, Archbishop of the Province of Alexandria of the Episcopal Church; Dean Hany Shenouda, Dean of the Cathedral; and H.E. Ambassador Alexander Pellicer, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba.

The concert featured a selection of Christmas music by the renowned composer George Frideric Handel, presented in a distinctive atmosphere under the direction of Maestro Verónica del Puerto, with piano accompaniment by Elena Gertsenko.

It is worth noting that George Frideric Handel (1685–1759) composed his work Messiah in 1741. It is an English-language oratorio that traces the story of Jesus Christ. The work was first performed in Dublin on April 13, 1742, and was presented in London for the first time about a year later. After a modest initial public reception, the oratorio gradually grew in popularity, eventually becoming one of the most famous and most frequently performed choral works in Western music.
