Today, Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Alexandria Province of the Episcopal/Anglican Church, presided over the Glorious Easter Holy Eucharist at All Saints’ Episcopal Cathedral in Zamalek.
In his sermon, the Archbishop said: “The Resurrection is not merely a historical event, but a living power that transforms a person from within. As seen in the life of Saint Mary of Egypt, who lived far from God, yet in a moment of true brokenness her life was completely transformed. The Resurrection reveals human weakness and helplessness, and at the same time declares that God begins His work when a person reaches the end of himself and realizes his need for Him, moving him from death to life.”
He added: “The Resurrection does not mean simply improving behavior, but a radical transformation of human identity. God does not reform the old person; He creates an entirely new one. This is seen in Peter’s transformation from a fearful man into a bold witness, and in Saul who became the Apostle Paul. It is a new life with a new heart and a new mind, not merely an improved version of the old life.”
The Archbishop concluded: “The Resurrection grants us a living hope that cannot be defeated—a hope that does not depend on circumstances or people, but on the reality of Christ’s Resurrection and His victory over death. This hope gives a person steadfastness and strength in times of suffering, affirming that the end is not an end, but a new beginning with God. Thus, the Resurrection always proclaims: a new beginning, a new identity, and an unbreakable hope.”
