About Us
A club for boys was suggested as a good way to start. Despite serious misgivings by both locals and expatriates, in September 1925, the boys club held its first meeting. Despite considerable opposition, before long the club-numbered between 50-60 members. Activities included physical fitness programmes, numeracy and literacy classes, education in basic life skills as well as spiritual instruction through scripture teaching and discussion.

Other activities were developed to meet local needs, such as a baby and mother welfare service, girls club, children’s club, a trade school for blind men and Sunday school. In 1934, the embroidery programme was begun, its aim being to provide employment for the many girls of Bulaq bound by poverty.

Today’s Bulaq Center is located under All Saints Cathedral. Vocational training for women continues to play a major role in the ministry. Women can come to the center to be trained in skills such as embroidery, sewing, and more. After their training, they can pick up assignments to work on at home. When they complete the work, they can bring it back to the center and receive income for their work. The center then sells the finished work to shoppers at the Touch of Egypt Craft Shop or at various bazaars in Cairo.
Bulaq is also pleased to support the participants with monthly spiritual meetings, where Christian women from impoverished communities near the Cathedral can come and receive pastoral care and teaching from the center staff and related clergy.
