Although most refugees see Cairo as a gateway to the West, only about 2% are resettled elsewhere. Refugees in Cairo must find work in order to make ends meet. That work, however, is extremely difficult to find. As a result, many are forced to work in the informal sector, in dangerous conditions and with very low pay.
Refuge Egypt works to enable refugees to access employment so that they and their families can be self-reliant and integrated into Egyptian society, and act as a mediator employees and employers when difficulties occur— most often as a result of the language barrier.That is done through a three step process:

- Profiling: Identifications of skills and qualifications.
- Trainings: Tailored, practical and on-the-demand-driven capacity development support including different types of vocational, customized, handcrafts and employability courses.
- Employement: Job matching and placement is provided to new comer refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.
