Cairo is home to thousands of refugees from all over Africa and the Arab world. As of December 2012, 56,382 refugees and asylum seekers were officially registered by the UNHCR, with thousands more unaccounted for by the system.
Refuge Egypt is a humanitarian and development organization that serves refugees who have fled their original country of residence due to war or disaster and who have well founded fears of return due to persecution or loss of rights. Refuge Egypt provides humanitarian assistance, medical services, employment and educational programs for refugees in Cairo.
In all our programmes we seek to fulfill God’s command in Leviticus 19: 33-34: “When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.”
