Archbishop of the Episcopal Church: The Gospel’s Message Is to Tear Down All Walls of Hatred and Division

Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Province of Alexandria of the Episcopal/Anglican Church, participated in the conference of the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC), held in Kenya, with the presence of more than 100 member churches from across the continent. This year’s conference focused on discussing the position of African churches regarding the Palestinian–Israeli issue and exchanging perspectives on the church’s role in supporting just peace and raising the voice of justice in the region.

The Archbishop spoke about the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza, stressing that “Christ is our peace, and in times of war and destruction we must raise our voice for justice, peace, and mercy for all who are in pain.” He emphasized that the church cannot remain silent in the face of injustice; rather, it is called to be an instrument of healing and reconciliation among peoples, for the message of the Gospel calls us to unity and to tearing down all walls of hatred and division.

He added that the message of Ephesians (2:13–18) reminds us that Christ, through His cross, reconciled all people and made the different groups one body in love and peace. He stressed that the church’s mission is to be an open home for all, where those who differ can meet in the love of God, far from any form of discrimination or division. He also affirmed that witnessing to Christ is not through words alone, but through acts of mercy, serving those in need, and continually working to build peace in society.

He concluded by affirming that hope in Christ can never be defeated, even in the midst of pain and suffering, because the light of the Resurrection is stronger than the darkness of wars and hatred. He called on believers to be “ambassadors of peace” who proclaim to the world the love of God that surpasses all boundaries and ends all conflicts.
