Archbishop of the Episcopal Church Extends Eid al-Fitr Greetings to Egypt’s Grand Mufti

Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Alexandria Province of the Episcopal/Anglican Church, visited His Eminence Professor Dr. Nazir Ayyad, Grand Mufti of Egypt, to extend his congratulations on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

The Archbishop was accompanied by Bishop Dr. Mouneer Anis Hanna, Director of the Christian-Muslim Center for Understanding and Partnership and Archbishop Emeritus; the Very Reverend Hany Shenouda, Dean of All Saints’ Cathedral; Rev. Matthew Anderson, Academic Studies Coordinator at the Center; and Rev. Samir Daoud, Director of Initiatives at the Center. During the visit, they affirmed the deep and positive bonds that unite the Egyptian people.

Archbishop Samy Fawzy and the accompanying delegation expressed their sincere congratulations and best wishes, praying that God would bless Egypt and its people with goodness and peace on this blessed occasion. The Archbishop also praised the spirit of love and cooperation that characterizes Egyptian society.

For his part, the Grand Mufti expressed his appreciation for the visit, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the values of peaceful coexistence and promoting the principles of human fraternity among all citizens.

Archbishop Samy Fawzy also commended the genuine spirit of affection shared between the Grand Mufti and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, a relationship that was clearly reflected in the article written by the Grand Mufti in the book In the Sanctuary of Al-Tayyeb (“Fi Mihrab Al-Tayyeb”). Through this contribution, the Grand Mufti expressed his deep appreciation and sincere fraternal sentiments. The Archbishop further highlighted the thoughtful recommendations presented by the Grand Mufti in the book, noting that they reflect a clear vision for promoting coexistence, mutual respect, and shared peace among all members of the nation.
