Archbishop of the Episcopal Church Commends Egypt’s Efforts to Promote Stability

Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Alexandria Province of the Episcopal/Anglican Church, hosted a delegation from The Anglican Relief and Development Fund from March 8–12 at All Saints’ Episcopal Cathedral in Zamalek. The visit was attended by Archbishop Justin Badi, Archbishop of the Province of South Sudan; Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba, Archbishop of the Province of Uganda; Archbishop Dr. Glenn Davies, Primate of the Church in Australia; and Bishop Julian Dobbs of the Church in the United States.

Archbishop Samy Fawzy welcomed the delegation, saying, “Welcome to our beloved Egypt.” He praised the efforts of the Egyptian state, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to promote security and stability amid the tensions affecting the Middle East as a result of ongoing wars and conflicts. He also emphasized the importance of praying for peace throughout the region.

Archbishop Fawzy highlighted the role of the Province of Alexandria in serving communities through its hospitals, support for refugees, and contributions to education, reflecting its commitment to embracing all people and reaching as many individuals as possible.

He added that the Episcopal Church has launched an online church ministry for the Deaf, alongside the Anglican Episcopal Studies Program, which focuses on training young people and church leaders according to a theological and spiritual vision, in cooperation with the Episcopal Theological Seminary.

During the visit, the delegation toured several diocesan ministries and institutions. They visited the Episcopal School and Harpur Memorial Hospital in Menouf, as well as the Church’s Refugee Services Office. The delegation also learned about the activities of various diocesan sectors, including the Christian-Muslim Center for Understanding and Partnership, the Development Sector, and the Media Sector.

The visit also included tours of several religious and tourist landmarks. The delegation visited the Cairo Tower, enjoyed a Nile cruise, and toured the Church of Saint Simon the Tanner in Mokattam, the Al-Hussein area, the Egyptian Museum, the Pyramids, and the Seven Churches of Old Cairo.
