Today, Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Episcopal/Anglican Province of Alexandria, led the Glorious Easter Mass at All Saints’ Episcopal Cathedral in Zamalek.
In his sermon, the Archbishop said:
“In a world filled with pain, injustice, and loss, people chase after temporary comforts—success, wealth, relationships—but life remains difficult and full of challenges. War, poverty, disease, and death weigh heavily on humanity and plant in the soul a deep sense of despair, making it seem as though nothing will ever change. This is the lie the devil plants in hearts: ‘That darkness is stronger than light, and that hope is futile.’”
He continued:
“But Christ’s resurrection changes that reality entirely. It is not merely a historical event or a doctrine we believe in—it is a real power capable of transforming life. The resurrection does not deny pain or eliminate death, but gives them a new dimension and opens before us the door to living hope. It assures us that there is an unfading hope, that God does not forget His children, and that the future is held in His faithful hands.”
He added:
“The call of the resurrection is an invitation to a new life that begins now—not just a life we await after death. It is a life full of light, freedom, and renewal, just like what happened with Peter, Thomas, and Saul, whose lives were completely transformed after encountering Christ. The resurrection gives us freedom from the slavery of sin, joy in the midst of suffering, and a living hope that does not fade—because it is built on a living person: Jesus Christ.”
The Archbishop concluded his Easter sermon by saying:
“The resurrection is God’s divine seal on Christ’s work—a heavenly confirmation that the sacrifice has been accepted, and the way to the Father is now open. The empty tomb, the disciples’ testimony, and Christ’s appearances all point to one truth: Jesus has risen from the dead—He is truly risen.”
