Cairo – Sunday, August 9, 2026
The Rt. Rev. Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Province of Alexandria of the Episcopal Anglican Church, participated in the activities of the second day of the Diocese’s Sunday School Conference, held from August 8 to 11 at Al-Batal Farm in Obour City under the theme “Niter Ma” (“Now I Know That the Lord Is Greater Than All the Gods”). The conference was attended by Rev. Yashua Bekhit, the conference pastor; Eng. Manal Mansi, Head of the Diocese’s Children’s Committee; and Ms. Angel Philips, the conference leader.
The Archbishop welcomed the children and expressed his joy at meeting them and participating in part of the conference activities. He listened to their hymns and viewed the handicrafts and creative works they had prepared themselves, as well as the games and educational activities designed to present the conference themes in a simple and interactive way.
The conference aims to explore the life and beliefs of the ancient Egyptians through the story of Joseph, discover the differences between Pharaonic thought and Christian faith, and affirm that God is the one true God who sees both what is visible and what is hidden and preserves people in times of prosperity and crisis. The conference also seeks to introduce the concept of salvation and its symbols in the Old Testament and their fulfillment in Christ.
The choice of an ancient Egyptian theme for the conference reflects pride in Egyptian identity and a connection to the roots of Egyptian civilization. This theme is used as an entry point for reflecting on the story of the Exodus from Egypt and its meanings related to salvation. The conference addresses the story of the Ten Plagues, Passover, and the Exodus, emphasizing that God is the true God and sovereign over all.
The conference focuses on several key themes, including wisdom, planning, and preparedness for crises; the value of the body and caring for it; knowing God who sees both the visible and the hidden; discovering the true God; and understanding salvation through God’s grace. These themes are explored through a series of lessons and activities that connect biblical events and characters with some beliefs and practices of ancient Egyptian civilization.
The conference continues with a diverse range of spiritual and educational activities, along with handicrafts, creative projects, games, and interactive activities, aimed at helping children understand the conference themes in a simple way and connect them to their daily lives and Christian faith.
