
Today, Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Province of Alexandria of the Anglican Episcopal Church, and Archbishop Dr. Mouneer Hanna, Archbishop Emeritus and Director of the Christian-Islamic Center for Understanding and Partnership, participated in the celebration held by Dar al-Iftaa Al-Misriyyah marking 130 years since its establishment. The event took place at the Grand Hall of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, in the presence of senior religious and executive figures, including former Grand Muftis and families of the late Muftis.
The Archbishop expressed his deep appreciation for the national and humanitarian role played by Dar al-Iftaa throughout its long history, affirming that its longstanding mission in serving society and promoting ethical values represents a central pillar in strengthening peaceful coexistence and spreading the culture of peace. He noted that this distinguished institution has, over 130 years, succeeded in presenting a pioneering model of wise and enlightened fatwa that considers contemporary changes and responds to human needs. He expressed his pride in participating in this event, which reflects a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect.
His Eminence Prof. Dr. Nazir Mohamed Ayad, Grand Mufti of Egypt, affirmed that the celebration reflects the enduring message of Dar al-Iftaa and its scholarly, spiritual, and cultural role. He highlighted its steadfast journey of leadership and excellence spanning more than a century and three decades, noting that the occasion showcases the global presence of the institution through the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide and its efforts in scholarly grounding, renewal, and addressing contemporary issues while preserving the principles and foundations of Islamic law.
The celebration embodies the historical and scholarly significance of Dar al-Iftaa, as the oldest organized fatwa institution in the Islamic world, highlighting its longstanding contributions to serving society, developing religious discourse, and engaging contemporary matters—reflecting its profound scholarly foundation and pivotal role in public life.
The program includes the screening of a documentary film presenting the history and key milestones of Dar al-Iftaa, along with speeches by former Grand Muftis highlighting the institution’s role in strengthening societal stability and serving national causes. The event concludes with honoring former Muftis in recognition of their scholarly and legal contributions.
