Archbishop Installs a New Dean for the Cathedral

Today, Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Province of Alexandria of the Anglican Episcopal Church, presided over the installation service of the new Dean, Rev. Hany Shenouda, as Dean of All Saints’ Cathedral in Zamalek. The service was attended by Archbishop Emeritus Dr. Mouneer Hanna, along with clergy of the Episcopal Church.

Introducing the new Dean to the congregation, the Archbishop said:
“The Episcopal Diocese of Egypt belongs to the Province of Alexandria, and it is part of the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. It worships the one true God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—and professes the faith revealed in the Holy Scriptures and in the Creeds. This faith is proclaimed anew by the Church from generation to generation. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we bear witness to the Christian truth expressed in the historic Creeds, the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, the Book of Common Prayer, and the Ordinal for the consecration of bishops, priests, and deacons.”

In his sermon, the Archbishop said:
“In chapter five of the Gospel of Luke, we witness a defining moment in the life of Simon Peter—when he was transformed from a fisherman into a disciple of Christ. Simon was a simple man who worked to support his family, yet Christ entered his life to lead him into a deeper place of faith and devotion, amidst the crowds that followed Jesus to hear His teaching.”

He concluded:
“The Lord chose Simon and spoke to him a special word: ‘Put out into the deep.’ It was a call to obedience and trust—a call to move from reliance on human experience to complete confidence in the Word of God. Even though the time and place were not suitable for fishing, Simon obeyed, saying: ‘At Your word I will let down the nets.’ And the nets were filled with a great number of fish.”

At the end of the service, Dean Hany declared before the congregation:
“I affirm and proclaim my faith in the teaching of the Holy Scriptures, the Creeds, the doctrine of the Episcopal Church, the Book of Common Prayer, and the practice of the sacraments. I pledge to use the authorized liturgies in the prayers recognized and permitted within the Episcopal Church.”
