Cairo – Wednesday, October 7, 2026

His Grace Bishop Dr. Samy Fawzy Shehata, Archbishop of the Episcopal Province of Alexandria, received Professor Michel Abs, Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches, at All Saints Episcopal Cathedral in Zamalek, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Christian cooperation and promote joint initiatives among churches.

The meeting addressed several topics related to enhancing coordination and joint efforts, as well as exploring ways to develop spiritual programs and shared activities. These efforts aim to deepen the spirit of unity and fellowship among churches and reinforce the values of love and mutual understanding among the various Christian denominations.

Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing joint efforts to serve the church and society across the region and strengthening fraternal relations among churches through coordinated initiatives and the exchange of expertise. They also discussed cooperation in social services, development initiatives, and spiritual activities targeting different segments of society, in ways that support people and promote love, solidarity, and community partnership.

During the meeting, Professor Michel Abs presented an overview of the Middle East Council of Churches’ programs across its various departments. He also discussed the conference entitled “Confronting Hate Speech to Promote Human Dignity and Living Together,” held in Cairo, highlighting its importance in combating hate speech and promoting values of love, respect, and mutual understanding among members of society.
