During the Divine Liturgy… Archbishop of the Episcopal Church: True Riches Lie in the Talents and Gifts God Has Placed Within Us

Today, Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy, Primate of the Anglican Episcopal Province of Alexandria, presided over the Divine Liturgy at Jesus the Prince of Peace Episcopal Church in El-Salam City. The service was attended by Rev. Fayez Nady, pastor of St. Athanasius Episcopal Church in Ain Shams and former pastor of the Peace Church. The church is currently under the pastoral care of Rev. Samir Dawood.

In his sermon, the Archbishop said: “The parable of the rich man and Lazarus is full of deep spiritual meaning. It reminds us that true wealth is not measured by money or possessions, but by the talents and gifts God has entrusted to us — for which we will ultimately give account. Every person, whether rich or poor, has unique blessings from God, and we are called to use them for good.”

He continued: “The rich man lived only for himself, indulging in luxury without caring for Lazarus, the poor man lying at his gate. Yet Lazarus, despite his suffering and weakness, neither complained nor held bitterness in his heart — he lived humbly, clinging to God. The contrast between them before death shows that the true value of life lies not in outward appearances but in a heart devoted to God.”

He concluded: “The parable reveals that after death, their destinies reversed — the rich man found himself in torment for missing his chance to repent, while Lazarus was carried by angels to Abraham’s bosom, symbolizing eternal comfort with God. This reminds us that our life on earth is a time to choose: to live for God or for ourselves. Therefore, Christ calls us to hold fast to Him and live a life of faith.”

At the end of the service, the church expressed sincere gratitude and appreciation to Rev. Fayez for his years of faithful service, acknowledging his fruitful ministry. Archbishop Samy Fawzy then announced the appointment of Rev. Samir Dawood as the new pastor of the church, wishing him success and blessings in his new ministry.
