The Most Reverend Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Province of Alexandria of the Episcopal Church, received Bishop Anthony Poggo, Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, at All Saints’ Cathedral in Zamalek. The meeting aimed to explore opportunities for partnership and strengthen cooperation between the Episcopal Church in Egypt and other Anglican churches worldwide, as well as to brief him on the church’s various activities.
Bishop Anthony Poggo’s visit to Egypt included several key stops. He visited St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral in Alexandria, where he was received by Dean David Aziz, the cathedral’s pastor, who shared the church’s history and its role in serving the community.
The visit also included a meeting with Archimandrite Damaskinos Al-Azra’i, Vicar of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria, held at the Greek Orthodox Church in Alexandria. The two discussed avenues for cooperation and the longstanding relationship between the two churches.
Bishop Poggo also visited Christ the King Episcopal Church in Ras El Soda, where he was welcomed by Rev. Mina Helmy, the church’s pastor. During the visit, the bishop toured the church’s social center and learned about the wide range of services it provides to the local community, especially in the areas of social support, education, and community development.
At the end of his tour, Bishop Anthony visited St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral, where he saw the resting place of St. Mark the Evangelist and the martyrs of Akhmim. He also viewed the mosaic depicting the story of St. Mark and the ancient cave dating back to the first century. He was received there by Rev. Makarios Wahib, assistant to Archpriest Abram Emil, Vicar of the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate in Alexandria.
