Dr. Mouneer Hanna, Archbishop of the Province of Alexandria, of the Episcopal/Anglican Church in Egypt, mourned the writer and screenwriter Waheed Hamed, who passed away today after a struggle with illness.

The Church stated in a statement: We have lost a free and bold pen that addressed issues of violence and terrorism with works that affected the Egyptian film library and cultural life over the past years.

Hanna said: Wahid Hamed was a symbol of Egyptian cinematography and the impact that Egyptian soft powers leave in their Arab and regional surroundings, with timeless works that history does not forget.
