Thanksgiving service for the life of Canon Ibrahim (Abee) Wakid

“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21 (NIV)

On Saturday morning, we gave thanks for the life of Canon Abee Wakid (1925-2016) at All Saints’ Cathedral, Cairo. With Mrs. Alexandra, his wife, Hany and Karim, his sons, the daughters-in-law, and the grandchildren with them the members of All Saints’ Cathedral joined to celebrate and give thanks for the life of Canon Abee Wakid.

Abee was the oldest and longest-serving member of the English-speaking congregation of the cathedral. The cathedral was filled with family and friends. Reverend Kerry Buttram led the service and Cynthia Buttram played his favourite hymns on the piano: Be still for the presence of the Lord; The Lord is my shepherd, I will not want; and Praise my soul the king of Heaven. Bishop Mouneer gave a tribute for his friend and faithful lay-canon of the diocese.

  1. I am in Uganda but i thank the Lord for the Anglican church in Egypt

  2. Yes, Praise the Lord for the life of Abee Wakid. I’m grateful too to be connected to this site so that I can be aware of significant events in the Diocese, and certainly for news of people I once knew and fellowshiped with at All Saints Cathedral in Cairo.
In those days it was still on the Corniche when we worshiped in competition with the machinery directly outside the windows [for the building of the new road and bridge.]
We attended the laying of the foundation stone for the new Cathedral in Zamalek and remember fondly Abee and his wife.

My condolences to his wife and family,

    in Christ,
    Norma Gorham
