The Provincial or “Central” Synod of the Episcopal / Anglican Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East met in Cairo on 7 December 2013 at the invitation of The Most Rev. Dr. Mouneer Hanna Anis, President Bishop or “Primate” of the Province. The Synod included the Diocesan Bishops, clergy and laity from the four dioceses of the Province: The Diocese of Jerusalem (which includes Israel / Palestine, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon), The Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf (Cyprus, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Yemen and Saudi Arabia), The Diocese of Iran (Iran), and The Diocese of Egypt with North Africa and the Horn of Africa (Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia and Djibouti).
The delegates worshiped together at All Saints Cathedral, prayed together, ate together, and had wonderful times of fellowship together. At the Synod, discussion took place regarding the situation facing Christians in the Middle East, the relationship of the Province and the rest of the Anglican Communion, the participation of the Province in ecumenical relations and interfaith dialogue, as well as internal matters.
